To the front are 3 double wardrobes. Two full height, with double hanging and one short hanging over 2 drawers. Also a large single mirrored door for a single mobile unit behind which, when wheeled out, gives access to lots of space and another single.
These first pictures are of the before , then the empty space and with the hidden sliding wardrobe and the 'garages' for the plastic boxes.
Narnia Roof Space Wardrobe. Another challenge.
This is the master bedroom, under the ridge, across the top of the house, however the previous owner / renovator had not addressed the issue of storage but simply suspended metal rails from the underside of the roof an old shower curtains completed the décor.
To design and fit a built in wardrobe with a front of about 3.5 metres wide and a depth at least 2.8 metres under the slope of the roof. The maximum height at the front of maybe 2.1 metres.
Also due to the en-suite, the width, behind the wardrobes opened up to about 4.7 metres wide.
To further complicate the design the run of doors would need to start on the top 2 stairs and the doors would open onto a restricted walkway around the stairwell.
This commission was a little further from my base of operations than I would have liked, however I was tempted by the challenge. Think - single (hungry) wild dog and a wounded elephant or Dachshund and a Great Dane….. Well you get the picture.
So on my first visit the exuberant owner and his winning smile, later enhanced by his other half won me over. So after ignoring common sense I came up with a plan.
The brief included matching the design and colour of an existing dressing table and making full use of all the 2.8 mtr x 4.7 mtr floor space. Oh and while I’m at it - a couple of matching bedside cabinets.
So as above - 3 double wardrobes, 2 with double hanging and the third short hanging above 2 drawers. Then a large mirrored door to a single removable unit which allows entry to eaves storage and another mobile unit.
I am more than a little pleased with the finished result which only needed a 6mm fillet to one side. The job was not without problems and I would like to have done some bits differently. Ah well - perfection is only for the gods.
More importantly my clients are happy and are pleased that they can use all the available storage space. Will and Sam were very easy to work with (despite the overrun) they had a lot of input and allowed me to experiment.
There are 3 double wardrobes to the front and behind the mirrored door are 2 more, removable, single wardrobes on wheels and a number of ‘garages’ housing off the shelf plastic boxes.
